These Beachfront Luxury Villas Offer A Perfect Alternative To Working From Home

If the ennui of working from home has you dreaming of breezy, sun-splashed escapes far from the confines of your home office (or couch-cum-home office), the storied Fairmont El San Juan Hotel has an enticing solution.

Nestled on 12 pristine acres on Puerto Rico’s renowned Isla Verde Beach, its collection of villa rooms are prime accommodations for an extended stay, whether you’re toiling remotely or just getting away from it all for a while. And the hotel’s new Bleisure in Style offer—which includes 30% off the best available rate and a $200 or $500 credit for a two-week or monthlong stay, respectively, among other perks—makes the prospect of temporarily relocating to a tropical paradise even more compelling.

Inspired by the lush foliage that blankets the property, the refined villa rooms are tucked away from the main hotel and prioritize privacy. At 350 square feet, Banyan Villa rooms (named for the magnificent 300-year-old Banyan tree that’s a hotel landmark) feature soothing garden views from the terrace—as do the 490-square-foot Pool Villa accommodations, which neighbor the resort’s signature Well & Being pool. Outfitted with a king or two queen beds, they’re also equipped with ergonomic workstations and roomy walk-in closets so you can overpack accordingly. Meanwhile, Ocean Villa rooms elegantly meld form and function with floor-to-ceiling windows framing arresting ocean views, as well as a separate seating area, whirlpool bath, and private terrace.

Those with villa room reservations will be greeted with champagne upon arrival by a personal concierge, who will check you in and help plan your stay, from arranging spa treatments and personal fitness training to booking poolside cabanas and restaurants. As a villa guest, you can enjoy as many or as few of the resort’s top-notch facilities as you desire.

Beyond its myriad amenities, the iconic property boasts an illustrious history. Having debuted in 1958 as the El San Juan Hotel, the instant hotspot attracted a slew of jet-setters during Puerto Rico’s heyday in the 1960s, when legendary performers including Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Liza Minelli graced its rollicking stage. Recently reimagined thanks to a $65 million redesign unveiled in December 2018, the grande dame of Caribbean hospitality joined the celebrated Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Collection in January 2020.

Visitors to Puerto Rico must supply proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test administered within 72 hours of arrival, and adhere to its travel guidelines thereafter. As a U.S. territory, Puerto Rico is excluded from the CDC requirement to provide a negative COVID-19 test to return to the mainland United States.
